Dayna Shoulders

Dayna Shoulders is a 1st year student at Ohio University from Columbus, OH. Dayna is double majoring in Business Pre-Law and Accountancy. On campus Dayna is involved in several organizations such as Anointed Bible Study, Unified Sisters, and Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Fraternity. Dayna is dedicated, intentional, and passionate about all things she is involved in. Dayna is sophisticated, poised, intelligent and enterprising. She values integrity and strives to do the right thing whether or not someone is watching. Her greatest strength is bringing out the best in other people and seeing the beauty in all things. She believes that everything begins with confidence. This belief is evident in Dayna’s strength, success, and self-love. Dayna has an undeniable passion for art.

Since she was 5 years old, Dayna has grown as an artist. Dayna is a 2019 Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards Silver Key winner for her piece “Dandelion Puffs”. She also earned the highest score possible on her 2019 Advanced Placement 2-D art portfolio. She shares her love of art with Columbus by volunteering as a greeter at the Columbus Museum of Art. In Athens, Dayna is invited to exhibit her artwork at major events and commissions art pieces. Dayna’s life purpose is to use her skills in leadership, visual art, public speaking, and mentorship to help others. She has created a mentorship program named Doodle with Dayna in order to uplift young Black girls. “Every meeting we drink tea and doodle pictures while we talk. I talk to them about how to make goals, succeed in school, and be someone they can confide in”. Her favorite part of mentoring is seeing her mentees grow into confident, kind, and intelligent young ladies. Dayna decided to compete in Miss Black Ohio because she wanted to devote herself to a position that would foster personal growth. She also wanted to use the opportunity to be of service to others and be a part of an amazing legacy.

As Miss Black Ohio Teen, Dayna has been a part of Martin Luther King Jr. Day with The King Arts Complex, and recognized at the Role Model Magazine celebration. Dayna’s pageant platform is titled “Own It!”. As a young woman pursuing business, Dayna wants to seemore women, especially Black women, earn the top positions in corporations. In partnership with her mentorship program, she works with young girls to create a foundation of confidence, critical-thinking, leadership, and communication skills. Ultimately, Dayna fulfills her purpose by encouraging young girls to own who they are so they can own their futures.
